A screen narrows a list of companies down to the ones that match a set of numeric conditions you choose. On this app, the list you're narrowing is the Nifty 250, and the conditions are built from figures already tracked for each company: things like return on equity, price-to-earnings, debt relative to equity, moving averages, or how much of a company promoters hold.
What kinds of conditions are available
Every condition compares one metric for a company against a value you set. The metrics come from four groups:
- Fundamental metrics describe the underlying business from its latest reported annual results: revenue, net profit, EPS, return on equity (ROE), return on capital employed (ROCE), net margin, debt to equity, and a few others.
- Valuation metrics relate a company's share price to its fundamentals: P/E, P/B, and market capitalisation.
- Technical metrics describe recent price and momentum: the closing price, trading volume, 50- and 200-day moving averages, RSI, and MACD.
- Shareholding metrics come from the most recently reported ownership pattern: how much of the company promoters, foreign institutional investors (FIIs), domestic institutional investors (DIIs), and the public hold, plus what share of promoter holding is pledged.
Each metric on the screener carries an ⓘ next to its name — selecting it opens a short definition, and the full glossary covers every metric this screener uses in more depth.
Building a set of conditions
A single condition names a metric, a comparison, and a value — for example, ROE greater than or equal to 15. The comparisons available are greater than, greater than or equal to, less than, less than or equal to, equal to, not equal to, and between two values.
Conditions can be combined into a group two ways: an AND group matches a company only if every condition in it is true; an OR group matches a company if any one condition in it is true. Groups can be nested, so a screen can express something like "(ROE above 15 AND debt to equity below 0.5) OR market cap above ₹1,00,000 Cr."
When a company is missing data
A metric that hasn't been reported or ingested for a company is recorded as missing, not zero. A missing metric never satisfies a condition — it's excluded from that condition's match, never treated as a default match, and never displayed as a fabricated zero.
Presets
The screener includes built-in presets — named, pre-built combinations of conditions covering common combinations like profitability, leverage, or ownership concentration. Opening a preset loads its conditions into the rule builder exactly as written, where they can be viewed, adjusted, or combined with additional conditions before running.
Where the numbers come from
Results are matched against a snapshot of each company's figures refreshed on a regular schedule, not fetched fresh on every screen. The results page states when that snapshot was last refreshed.
Saving and sharing a screen
A set of conditions can be saved and shared as a link, which reopens the same rule builder with the same conditions loaded — reopening it re-runs the screen against the current snapshot. Results can also be exported as a CSV or spreadsheet file.
